Natural soap or shower gel? An honest comparison.
Share
More and more people are asking themselves this question – and the answer is less clear-cut than one might think. Here's a factual comparison, without exaggeration.
Ingredients
Shower gel consists of about 80% water. The rest: surfactants, preservatives, thickeners, fragrances, often silicones. Many of these ingredients are not necessary for the cleaning effect – they improve the texture, lathering behavior, and shelf life of the product itself.
Cold process natural soap consists of vegetable oils, lye (which completely transforms during the process), and essential oils. The natural glycerin is retained – it moisturizes the skin during cleaning.
Skin feel
Shower gel: Lathers strongly, feels fresh – but many people report dryness, tightness, or itching, especially with sensitive skin.
Natural soap: Cleans more gently, the skin feel is initially unfamiliar – creamier, less foamy. After a few days, most people report significantly better skin quality.
Environment
Shower gel: Plastic bottle, often microplastics in the product itself, high transport weight due to water content.
Natural soap: Plastic-free packaging, no microplastics, biodegradable, lighter transport.
Price
A shower gel is cheaper to buy. A high-quality natural soap costs more – but if stored correctly, it lasts significantly longer than a plastic bottle and often replaces several products.

Conclusion
For healthy, normal skin: Both work. For sensitive, dry, or reactive skin, natural soap is the much better choice. For anyone who wants to avoid plastic and chemicals: even more so.
