White Clay – the gentlest of all clays

White clay – also known as kaolin – is the mildest and most versatile clay in natural cosmetics. It is so gentle that it is even suitable for baby skin and extremely sensitive skin. In our Tirol Soaps, we specifically use kaolin when maximum gentleness is required – without compromising on cleansing power.

What is Kaolin?

Kaolin is a naturally occurring clay mineral formed by the weathering of feldspar. It has been known in cosmetics for millennia – in China, it was used for skin care over 2,000 years ago. The name "Kaolin" comes from the Chinese mountain Kaoling, where it was first mined.

What's in white clay?

  • Silicon – strengthens skin structure
  • Aluminum – mild astringent effect
  • Magnesium – calming and anti-inflammatory
  • Calcium – strengthens the skin barrier
  • Very fine particles – gentler effect than other clays
