Deep cleansing from the power of nature: Activated carbon

Activated charcoal – the black magnet for pure skin

Black as night – and yet one of the purest raw materials nature has to offer. Activated charcoal has been known for millennia for its unique ability to attract and bind dirt, toxins, and bacteria like a magnet. In our Bergmann soap, we rely on this extraordinary raw material – for a deep cleansing that you can truly feel.

What exactly is activated charcoal?

Activated charcoal is produced by the controlled combustion of wood, coconut shells, or other organic materials at very high temperatures. This process creates a highly porous structure with an enormous surface area – one gram of activated charcoal can have a surface area of up to 1,000 square meters.

This huge surface area is the secret: it binds dirt, oil, bacteria, and toxins through adsorption – the particles adhere to the charcoal surface and are simply rinsed away when washed off.

What does activated charcoal do in soap?

In soap, activated charcoal unfolds its full power as a deep cleanser:

  • âś” Deep cleansing – draws dirt and sebum from pores
  • âś” Pore-refining – makes pores appear smaller
  • âś” Antibacterial – inhibits bacterial growth
  • âś” Balancing – regulates sebum production
  • âś” Detoxifying – removes environmental pollution from the skin
  • âś” Odor-neutralizing – binds and neutralizes odors

Who is activated charcoal soap suitable for?

Activated charcoal soap is ideal for:

  • oily or blemish-prone skin
  • men's skin after sports, work, or outdoor activities
  • people exposed to a lot of particulate matter in urban environments
  • anyone who prefers a thorough, deep cleanse

But activated charcoal soap is also excellent for normal skin – as an occasional deep exfoliation that leaves the skin fresh and radiant.

Why does the soap look black – and does it make the skin black too?

Don't worry! The activated charcoal gives the soap its characteristic dark color – but it does not stain the skin. The fine particles only adhere to dirt and sebum, not to the skin itself. After rinsing, the skin is clean, fresh, and radiant – with no black residue.
