What is pine?
The stone pine – also called Swiss stone pine – is a conifer that grows in the Alps at an altitude of over 1500 meters. It is slow-growing, tough, and resilient: some stone pine trees live for over 1000 years.
The wood of the stone pine has a characteristic, resinous scent – warm, spicy, slightly sweet. This scent comes from natural essential oils in the wood.
What does pine oil do in a soap?
The essential oil of the stone pine – extracted from needles, cones, and wood shavings – has several interesting properties:
